Don Blevins, a longtime resident of San Marcos, Texas, earned his master of education degree from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) with a concentration in Southwestern studies.  He is a member of the Texas State Historical Association, the Writers League of Texas, and the Coalition of Texas Authors.  Don has written articles for more than 50 magazines, including American History Illustrated, Fate, True West, and German Life.

Don’s first book, Peculiar, Uncertain, and Two Egg, was published in 2000 by Cumberland House, Nashville, and covers some 3,000 American communities with unusual names (in 49 states; Hawaii is not included) and their origins. His second book, From Angels to Hellcats, was released in 2001 by Mountain Press, Missoula, Montana, and tells the story of 8 very unusual women in Texas in the 1800s. Following that, in 2003, Texas Towns: From Abner to Zipperlandville, was published by Republic of Texas Press, and lists the name origins and locations of some 1,200 communities in Texas.

In 2008, Two Dot Publications (Globe Pequot Press) released his latest book, A Priest, A Prostitute, and Some Other Early Texans.  This book covers 14 individuals who roamed the Lone Star State in the 1800s, some well known, some heard of, others unknown.

Don is originally from Johnson City—not Texas—but the one located in the mountains of northeast Tennessee.

Don Blevins speaks frequently to civic groups, book clubs, libraries and classrooms.
